PIT HMIS Data Clean-Up Begins Now!

While the regular QDQ process has a bit of lag time built in, the turnaround for PIT night data quality review is FAST. So fast that we are simply aligning the deadline with QDQ - February 12! This enables agencies to wrap their QDQ and PIT DQ into one effort and move on. If your agency runs Emergency Shelter, Transitional Housing, or any kind of Permanent Housing (that includes Rapid!) programs, read on for all the details and resources for tidying up your PIT night data quality.

For both the Point in Time Count (PIT) and the Housing Inventory Count (HIC) reports, it is critical that we can pull an accurate client count directly out of HMIS. To do this, HMIS-participating programs need to put a bit of extra attention on their data for the PIT night. Because you're just reviewing data for that one night, it isn't a huge lift, but it is an important one!

Please set aside time this week and/or next week to review your PIT night DQ. The deadline is same as QDQ: Monday, February 12. All instructions for carrying this out can be found in our HMIS PIT Data Corrections Guide.

Data Clean-Up

1) Run the report (it is a special PIT-night version of the QDQ report, called the 281).

2) Make the corrections. Reference our PIT/HIC Knowledge Base collection for support.

3) Check your work. Pay close attention - Do the number of clients pulling into my PIT night counts match what I know to be true about my program?

4) Reach out to the Helpdesk (mnhmis@icalliances.org) if things aren't shaking out like you'd expect.

ICA staff will review the PIT night data statewide after February 12. If there are lingering issues, we will reach out to agencies and end users to help troubleshoot. Help us help you by resolving as much as you can before that! That ensures we can target any extra support towards the programs that really need it. All HMIS PIT night data is final final by March 1 at the latest.
